Abstract: With a view to obtaining maximum concentrations of inoculum for use in evaluating resistance of cacao to Phytophthora spp., zoospore production by Phytophthrora capsici, P. palmivora and P. citrophthora isolates was studied under three Iight regimes. In 10-day old cultures incubated at 27°C, zoospore production by the three species was most abundant under continuous light, was less under 10 h light alternating with 14 h dark, and was least under continuous dark. Zoospore production by P. capsici and P. palmivora was strongly stimulated by light but while P. citrophthora gave a similar response, the stimulatory effect of light was of a lesser magnitude.
