Abstract: | A histopathological assessment was made of the response to infection by isolates of Crinipellis perniciosa (Stahel) Singer in Trinidad of the progenies of cocoa (Theobroma cacao L.) clones of varying reactions to witches' broom disease. Diseased seedlings were characterized by hyperplasia in the cortex and vascular tissues and hypertrophy of the cortex and secondary phloem. Maximum development of these symptoms occurred on progenies of the susceptible clones while the least changes were noted on seedlings from resistant and moderately resistant clones. |
